Funeral arrangements

What to expect when preparing for a funeral

The value a funeral service brings to family and friends is immeasurable. A funeral service can provide an opportunity to acknowledge loss, create a sense of order and find comfort in the midst of sadness. For many, being part of a memorable farewell is the first step back into the community and the daily demands of life.

As your Geelong funeral directors, we are here to provide guidance and support. During the initial funeral arrangement meeting we will assist you to decide on the practical and celebratory aspects of the funeral service.

Tuckers Funeral & Bereavement Service will endeavour to make the process of organising a funeral as straightforward as possible. The arrangement meeting will take approximately one to two hours.

Some of the questions we will ask may include:

  • When and where will the Funeral Service be held?
  • Is the Funeral to be a burial or cremation?
  • Would you like a viewing prior to the Funeral Service?
  • What music would you like to include during the Service?
  • Which photo is to be printed on the Service Booklet or Bookmark?
  • Which photos or video would you like for the DVD Memorial Tribute?
  • Are the death and funeral notices to be advertised in the newspaper or online?
  • Will there be a gathering or refreshments after the Service?

During the funeral arrangement meeting we will record the decisions and choices made to create a detailed estimate of costs and disbursements. During the days following this meeting, until the funeral service is conducted, we provide ongoing assistance while liaising with the clergy or celebrant, newspapers, florists, cemeteries, churches and any other third parties that might be required in preparation for the funeral service.

The many services we offer at Tuckers will continue to be provided to you and your family after the funeral has been conducted. There are many ongoing activities and arrangements that might still need to be taken care of.

A member of our Bereavement Care Team will make contact with you or your family approximately four to six weeks after the funeral service has been conducted to see if we can be of any further assistance. Twelve months after the funeral service our Bereavement Care Team will again make contact with you or your family offering assistance.

Every year in late November, Tuckers holds a special Christmas Service. ‘A Time To Remember’ is a service where family and friends can gather to remember the loved ones who have passed away and includes strategies on how to cope during the Christmas season.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free community event. Please contact us for more information.
